Here is where you will find everything that links within the braking system of a bike, the braking system is a vital part to any cycle as it allows you to control your speed, slow down and or completely stop. There are many ways in which to set a brake up, but there are two main styles that you will notice.

Finding what you want

Within each of our sub categories you will see to your left on the screen that there is a filtering system, this allows you to narrow your search and land bang on what you’re looking for, so if you only want a pink brake you can simply select pink and only brakes that come in that colour will then show up! Easy!

 

But Some People Ride Brakeless?

Yes this is correct, however preferential you can be with your bike down the skate park or in closed off areas, the law states you need brakes. If you get caught without them then you can of course risk fines and it is allot harder to slow down when riding around traffic, so we advise a brake system to be present on any custom build or bike that we see/sell.

 

Two Main Styles of Brake

Here are the pros & cons of the two main styles of brake that people are commonly found using today:

 

Direct Single Cable: Mostly dirt jump riders and style cats use this type of brake as it is pretty simple and is the classic brake type.

Advantages: -Easy to set up
-Only one main cable
-Good level of power

Disadvantages: -Only one or so rotations of the handle bars can be done
-Easy to tangle up the cable and damage it
-This can catch on things unless you have it strapped up

Gyro Brake Setup: Perfect for trick monkeys who spin their handle bars all the time and ideal for low maintenance as the brake cables cannot become tangled up. Ideal for beginners for this reason also.

Advantages: -Tidy look, no overhanging cables
-No cables can become caught up due to the detangler system
-Multiple styles of routing can be applied to improve braking power
-Ideal for lots of tricks and super low maintenance

Disadvantages: -Little trickier to set up
-Slightly heavier than a single cable due to the gyro plate system
-Spares can be a bit hard to come by

When it comes to it, riding is all about preference, if you like it then go for it, there is no code of conduct for having the style of brake you want on the style of bike you have.
